Gauchos

Gauchos are what North Americans would call a cowboy. They lived in many parts of South America, but predominately in Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile (Wikipedia). Gauchos spent their time herding cows, and hunting. Gauchos were homeless, and nomadic, meaning that they traveled around, never living in one place for very long. They made up the majority of the rural population, and are a national symbol for many countries. They prided themselves on being excellent at riding a horse, and capable of taking care of themselves. Many gauchos were drafted during wars because of their talents when it came to violence (Travelsur).
